06 · SONG MODE

Patterns Become Arrangements

Song mode is a list, not a maze. Chain patterns, set repeats, drop in tempo changes, and build full arrangements without leaving the sequencer.

Song Structure

Songs are linear chains of pattern steps. Each step references a pattern and specifies how many times it repeats before moving to the next.

Song Steps

Each step in a song carries more than just a pattern reference:

PatternWhich pattern to play
Repeat countHow many times to loop (1–999)
Tempo overrideChange tempo at this step (optional)
Mix snapshotRecall a mixer state (optional)
ColorVisual color for arrangement view
LabelCustom name (e.g., "Verse 1", "Drop")

Tempo Changes

Set a tempo override on any step. When the song reaches that step, the tempo changes immediately. Use this for breakdowns, buildups, or half-time sections without needing separate automation.

EXAMPLE
Step 1: Pattern 01 × 4 @ 120 BPM
Step 2: Pattern 02 × 2 @ 90 BPM (breakdown)
Step 3: Pattern 03 × 4 @ 120 BPM (return)

Mix Snapshots

Recall a saved mix snapshot at any step. This enables arrangement-level mixing — different parts of your song can have completely different levels, pans, and sends without automation.

Per-step recallOptional (-1 = no change)

Sections

Group contiguous steps into named, colored sections for visual organization. Sections make long arrangements easier to navigate and understand at a glance.

Section nameCustom label
Section colorVisual distinction
SpanAny contiguous range of steps

Loop Region

Select any contiguous range of steps and loop it while you tweak. The song will cycle through the selected region until you disable the loop or extend the selection.

Edit While Playing

Insert, duplicate, and reorder steps while the song plays. Changes take effect at the next step boundary. Build arrangements live without stopping playback.
